The Characteristics of a Symbolic Peal

The pearl brings out a lot of human characteristics. For Kino it brings out a hope for a better future. He wants his son to go to school, for him and his wife to finally get married, and to buy a gun. Juana has some feelings the same and some different about the pearl than Kino. At first she was glad that Kino had found the pearl, but she now sees that it is destroying Kino. She wants the pearl to be crush or thrown back into the ocean. The doctor was a greedy man before the pearl was discovered, but now it has made him even more greedy. He thinks that since he helped Kino and Juana's son that they should pay him. Before they found the pearl, he didn't want to help them. The priest was greedy. He wanted Kino to give money to the church. He acts very hypocritical too. The neighbors and townspeople were greed about it too, like everyone else. Everyone of them was saying what they would buy if they had found the pearl.

  1. I can see what you mean when you talk about the characteristics. How you talk about the doctor, priest, and the neighbors and townspeople being greedy towards the pearl, and the bright imagination-of-a-future that Kino had in mind for Coyotito and the family.

  2. I like how you explained that the doctor wouldn't help coyotito at first, then kino found the pearl and the doctor was willing to help them. I also like how you explained which people were greedy.
